HIV Media and Communication Capacity Building Adviser, Hargeisa, Somaliland
Job Description
The successful candidate should have a relevant qualification in journalism, media and communication.
You should have a minimum of three years’ direct work experience on planning, implementing and monitoring HIV media and communication strategies/campaigns. Experience of effective media, communications and advocacy strategies to respond to HIV and AIDS with Muslim communities; in newsletter writing/publication, radio and TV programme design, implementing and monitoring; as a print media journalist and as an editor; providing informal media training/mentoring/coaching; of liaison with a range of different organisations and people, and of working in a resource poor environment is essential.
You should have demonstrable knowledge in organisational development and capacity building techniques and methods; knowledge and understanding of participatory monitoring and evaluation techniques; an understanding of the role of advocacy, networking and information strategies in promoting change on issues relating to HIV and AIDS; an ability to promote a gender sensitive approach to issues relating to HIV and AIDS, and excellent analytical skills, including the ability to communicate complex (and potentially sensitive) ideas/issues through briefings and presentations to diverse audiences in an accessible way. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of stakeholders in a participatory, respectful, collaborative manner; ability to adapt skills and knowledge to the local context and work with existing resources, in a resource poor environment; excellent project management, self-organising and prioritising skills, including the ability to plan and implement own work with limited support, basic skills in fundraising/proposal writing; cultural sensitivity in an Islamic setting; commitment to participatory/consultative methods, and empathy and commitment to working with people living with or affected by HIV and AIDS are also essential.
