Overview
Allen & Overy’s ambition is to achieve a position of market leadership and recognition as a premier law firm for global antitrust work.

For the next five years the global antitrust team has defined an ambitious set of goals based upon a reorganisation and growth strategy.

To support the implementation of this strategy, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager to provide strategic business development advice and tactical ‘hands on’ marketing and operational support within the global antitrust team of Allen & Overy.

This role will have specific responsibility for leading antitrust marketing activity (BD, CRM, PR) globally and providing strategic support to the global group. He/She will work closely with the antitrust team and BD colleagues in relevant countries to coordinate and integrate antitrust marketing efforts. He/She will also coordinate with the relevant professional support lawyers on know-how aspects.

The reporting line for this role is to the Global Head of Corporate Business Development and to the Antitrust Steering Group.

This role will be based in our Brussels office, with travel to other offices as required.

Key responsibilities

  • Client development
  • Ensure that the global team are actively pursuing growth opportunities and working together to build strong client loyalty.

Profile raising

  • Support efforts to build the ‘brand’ of the global antitrust team and improve how we showcase our collective capability to the market.
  • Client communications
  • Differentiate our offering to clients through high quality insights.
  • Marketing/BD planning and execution
  • Play a lead role in implementing the global Antitrust plan.
  • New Business
  • The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for winning business and pursuing new client opportunities.

Profile
This is an opportunity for an experienced manager with proven broad business development and marketing experience, looking for a new challenge to build on their existing experience. In addition to proven experience in the mentionned areas of responsibility, we seek:

  • Experience in the legal sector, particularly within a major global law firm would be a significant advantage.
  • Existing knowledge of antitrust law, or a commitment to investing time to build an understanding of the issues that are of interest to clients and knowledge of the strategic topical issues in antitrust/ competition enforcement internationally.
  • Excellent impact and influencing skills
    - with partners, key associates, and business development colleagues, clients and suppliers. This role is not about ‘power’.
  • It is suited to people who can, and like, achieving results through influence, energy and coaching.
  • A positive, proactive approach.
  • Drive, tenacity and enthusiasm are key.
  • A commitment to quality, a high attention to detail and strong client focus.
  • An ability to shift from the operational to the strategic easily.

  • Ability to think globally, connecting the dots and utilizing the experience and resources of the global BD team to push global campaigns, thought leadership and initiatives.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and inspire both global antitrust BD colleagues and global antitrust fee-earners to deliver business goals and change behaviour where required.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, juggle multiple projects and deliver under pressure.
  • Strong organisational skills are key.
  • Ability to plan ahead, anticipate workload of the team and manage others’ time efficiently, balances conflicting priorities and does not over-commit team and themselves – always manages expectations.
  • Fluent English speaking. Business French would be preferable.
