Job summary
MICRODIS is an Integrated Project funded under the EU Sixth Framework Programme with the overall goal to strengthen preparedness, mitigation and prevention strategies in order to reduce the health, social and economic impacts of extreme events on communities. This position will focus on geo-referencing of natural disasters in the MICRODIS countries from 2000-2009 and creating maps from the geo-referenced data (www.microdis-eu.be). Salary will be according to the University pay scale. A work permit for EU is required.
Key responsibilities
• Geo-referencing EMDAT disasters and their impacts using new methods and datasets (www.emdat.be)
• Creating maps across countries, disasters types and impact areas
• Develop research papers using GIS technologies and natural disasters data
Minimum job requirements
Master/second level degree in either geography or bio-engineering . The candidate will have experience with ArcGIS 9.1. Experience in application and satellite data is an asset. Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc) are required. Fluent English is required and knowledge of French is an asset. Must be able to work in a team, be flexible and operate in non-hierarchical structures.
