Job Description

International Criminal Law Services (www.iclsfoundation.org) works to realise international criminal justice around the globe. We provide training and other services in the field of international criminal law and practice. Based in the Netherlands, ICLS is an independent, not-for-profit NGO.

ICLS is expanding its activities and is set to grow institutionally. We are seeking an experienced fundraiser/development officer to help implement this growth phase successfully. S/he will help to develop a fundraising strategy in relation to short-to medium-term project-funding needs and core/organisational/unrestricted funding. S/he will help to implement the fundraising strategy by, for example, ‘marketing’ ICLS, identifying potential donors, establishing and maintaining relations with donors,  reparing and coordinating funding applications, managing grants, supporting project/programme teams in managing funds, and reporting to donors. S/he may also be required to assist the ICLS treasurer.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of a small NGO with a proven track record in a field of growing importance.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a strong interest in areas such as international justice, transitional justice, human rights, rule of law, development, good governance or justice-sector reform.
  • Have at least 1 year of proven experience in raising funding for NGOs or comparable civil-society organisations working in areas such as those mentioned above.
  • Have experience in raising funding from governmental and non-governmental donors (including private foundations or trusts and, ideally, individuals too) in Europe, the USA, Canada, and elsewhere. (Applicants with grant-making and-management experience with donors of NGOs etc operating in areas such as those mentioned above will also be considered.)
  • Have experience of working with logical frameworks.
  • Have excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Be well organised, a stickler for detail, efficient, self-confident, persuasive, a quick learner, creative and dynamic.
  • Be self-motivated, able to work independently, and be a team player.
  • Be fully computer literate (incl Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases).
  • Have the right to work in the UK and/or the Netherlands, be based in or near London or in or near The Hague and be willing and able to work remotely.
  • Be able to start immediately or in the near future
  • Be able to assist ICLS on a part-time basis for a minimum of 3 months.

The hours will be flexible. You will work with ICLS’ executive director, treasurer and other members of the ICLS board of directors. If based in or near The Hague, you will be able to work from the ICLS office there. The work will be unpaid. There is a prospect of employment. Agreed expenses will be covered. If you match the above profile please email a 1-2 page covering letter and a 1-3 page CV (in English) to go@iclsfoundation.org (citing reference “Fundraiser 1” in the subject line). Indicate when you would be able to start, and how many hours per week you would be able to volunteer.

Application deadline: applications will be considered on a rolling basis, with the first assessment of applications scheduled for 31 July 2009.

We regret that only suitable applications will be acknowledged. Strictly no phone enquiries. ICLS will not respond to general enquiries about this advertisement.
