Fisheries Project Lead

Biodiversity Programme – Brussels/London

We have an excellent opportunity in our Brussels (preferred) or London office for a reliable, self-motivated individual who thrives in a team environment to join our fisheries team and help end overfishing and improve fisheries management in Europe.

The fisheries project lead is responsible for managing ClientEarth’s fisheries work, which includes: (i) the implementation of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy (at Brussels and regional levels) and development of associated legislation, (ii) the implementation and reform of the EU’s fisheries control legislation and (iii) the development of the UK’s national fisheries law(s) as it prepares to leave the EU. In addition to managing the lawyers and scientists on the fisheries team, the Fisheries Project Lead will also be active in delivering and directing the team’s strategy and approach, drafting and reviewing legal recommendations and other advocacy documents, meeting with decision-makers, collaborating with partners and engaging with social and traditional media. There will be a strong focus both on communicating ClientEarth’s recommendations to decision-makers and on collaborating with other NGOs.

The successful candidate will have either a legal or environmental policy background in an EU Member State with at least 5 years' experience of relevant work experience, a strategic mind, excellent analysis skills and an interest in using these skills to support public-interest environmental advocacy work. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be professional and confident, have experience managing a team. The candidate must already have either knowledge of EU decision-making processes or of fisheries management issues - or ideally, both!

Salary

The salary bracket for this role is €4.350 – €4.650 gross per month (in Brussels) or around £52,000 per annum (in London), depending on experience.
