Finance Watch, the Brussels-based public interest advocacy association dedicated to making finance serve society, is looking for an Executive Director to be responsible for the implementation of our strategy, projects and programs as well as for the effective operational functioning of our growing organisation and team of high-performing experts.

The ideal candidate has several years of experience in program supervision and implementation and in the management of an NGO in an international environment with diverse groups of stakeholders. She/he has a track-record in managing an organisation and teams of people and is furthermore skilled in NGO advocacy to policymakers at national and/or EU level. 

The position includes responsibility for the operational development of the Organization, under the strategic leadership of the Secretary General and the guidance of the Board of Directors and is based at our offices in the European quarter in Brussels.

The tasks include, among others:

Job description

  • Managing and developing the staff of Finance Watch. The ED will have high management and communication skills to build an effective, collaborative, project-based team culture within a relatively flat hierarchy.
  • Supervising Finance Watch finances, human resources and operations
  • Leading the team’s project management of a wide range of programmes and projects, while participating directly in project delivery.
  • Translating Finance Watch’s strategic plan into demonstrated advocacy impact through a process of strategic planning, design and implementation
  • Supporting the Secretary General in strategic planning, and in lobbying EU policy makers and EU institutions in order to achieve FW’s policy and strategic objectives
  • Coordinating lobbying and campaigning activities with FW members at both EU and national level
  • Ensuring suitable processes for monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Deputising for the Secretary General in his/her absence or upon delegation by the Secretary General

Profile / Qualifications

  • Be committed to Finance Watch’s mission.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in NGO management.
  • Solid financial, HR related and operational expertise
  • Outstanding team leadership skills in a multinational and multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in management and delivering large scale, complex programs and projects.
  • Proven experience in project planning, budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in NGO lobbying and advocacy to policymakers on national or EU level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Campaigning experience and knowledge of additional languages will be an asset.
  • Perfect presentation skills and a proven record of presentations delivered to varied audiences.
  • Broad knowledge of and interest in financial issues.
  • Results-oriented and self-motivated individual.
