TEMP- Event Officer

The Foreign Trade Association (FTA) is the leading business association of European and international commerce that promotes the values of free trade and sustainable supply chains. FTA represents over 1,900 retailers, importers and brand manufacturers to promote and defend free trade and supports their international business by providing information and practical solutions towards sustainability in the international supply chain.

In 2003, FTA created the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) to provide companies with a practical and efficient system to improve social compliance in global supply chains. In 2011, in light of the success of BSCI, FTA adopted a new governance structure and integrates sustainability into its core business. In 2014, FTA developed the Business Environmental Performance Initiative (BEPI) to support companies committed to improving environmental performance in their supply chain. Today, FTA unites more than 1,900 member companies. These members reflect the diversity of the commercial sector in terms of consumer goods, turnover and country of origin. By working together and taking a common approach, our members have a greater impact than acting alone. 

The role:

FTA is looking for a temporary Event Officer to join its Communication department from 1st April to end of November 2017.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional in events organisation ready to support increasing visibility and reputation of FTA via impactful international and local events.

This position reports to the FTA Event Coordinator. 

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Support with the organisation of FTA Events: this includes but is not limited to registrations follow-up, events logistics such as event space, catering, supply and equipment ordering, events website maintenance, event programme updates, support in speaker organisation, responding to questions from participants, general support in the coordination of breakout sessions.
  • Support with the communication of FTA Events: this includes but is not limited to ensuring all events are advertised on FTA website and other online media, draft invitations and reminders, prepare materials for distribution
  • External event support:
    Research and identify relevant opportunities for events,a Supporting building the portfolio of FTA partnerships with other events, implementation of event partnership agreements
  • Event administration
    Update the calendar of events, continuously update the ‘friends of FTA’ listing 
  • Other communication tasks as requested

Professional Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading, and speaking;
  • English mother tongue or equivalent
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience with event management;
  • Good time management skills and the ability to multi-task;
  • Proficient using of the latest versions of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Experience with online communications;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or equivalent
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Dynamic and open personality
  • English native speaker or equivalent, other languages are a plus
  • Experience in working as part of a multi-cultural team
  • Able to work independently and take initiative
