(VDV) is the recognised address for political, administrative, economic and research institutions when it comes to questions and services relating to public transport and rail freight in Germany. Thanks to the accomplishments of its members, VDV is a leading association in the German transport sector. VDV e-Ticket Service (VDV-ETS) operates and coordinates the technical systems and standards for (((eTicket Deutschland.

For the VDV European office in Brussels, we are currently recruiting for a duration of six months a

Trainee (m/f)

Job description:

  • Monitor European policy developments relevant to public transport, with a particular focus on intelligent transport systems, digitalization, ticketing, and data policies of the EU;
  • Monitor several EU expert groups and coordinate VDV’s and VDV-ETS’ contribution to these groups by coordinating the work programme and organizing regular meetings of the staff involved;
  • Support the development and maintenance of contacts in relevant Commission directorates and with other stakeholders;
  • Draft reports to inform members and colleagues about current EU affairs;
  • Carry out background research related to transport and data issues;
  • Support the regular communication activities (website, newsletters, etc.);
  • Support the organization of events at the European Parliament;
  • Support for administrative tasks.

What we expect from you:

  • University degree in Political Sciences, European studies, Law, Transport economics, Engineering, Information technology or similar;
  • Familiarity with the EU policy-making and the European institutions;
  • A good understanding of the European transport and/or data policies;
  • German mothertongue; fluent English skills required; knowledge of French desirable;
  • Flexible, proactive and reliable with good organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to carry out desk research and synthesize key information.
