EU Policy Internship

Job Experience

Job Location

Expiration Date

02 Jun 2017

As a Policy Intern with a focus on EU and German policy, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of work as part of a growing business. With a keen eye for detail, bags of energy, and a can-do attitude, you’ll enjoy juggling multiple tasks. You’ll have native-level German, a strong knowledge of the EU and German political systems.

What you’ll do

You’ll learn how to monitor and analyse EU policy and German policy on a daily basis to keep our clients informed of legislative developments as they happen. You’ll use your policy knowledge to help create our popular daily and weekly e-mails, as well as being active on our social media channels. We’ll also train you to write concise summaries of policy debates. Full professional proficiency in English is therefore a must.

Skills you’ll demonstrate

We’re looking for client-focussed team players and you’ll need to remain calm under pressure. In practice, this means you enjoy helping people and will be excited by the idea of learning fast on your feet and taking on responsibility quickly. You’ll naturally look for solutions rather than problems.

You’ll have an analytical mind and enjoy ‘joining up the dots’ between policy areas. A positive attitude at this stage of your career is more important than experience, although we would expect you to demonstrate an understanding of the German and EU legislative process and have a passion for policy that goes beyond your studies. You’ll enjoy being part of a small team and be sociable.

You’ll be able to demonstrate independence through your previous paid work experience (part-time is fine – our Co-Founders have worked in shops, supermarkets, bowling alleys, and call centres).

You’ll possess a Masters but everyone does these days, right? Your attitude and extra-curricular activity will be just as important. We’re looking for well-rounded people.

About us

OPP is a young policy focussed startup that was founded in 2014 in Germany. We’ve grown from two people with an idea working out of Berlin, to a successful, highly-respected, and established player in Brussels. Our clients include global corporations, global consultancies, global and European trade associations, NGOs, think tanks and high-profile academic institutions.

Our management team have a wealth of experience on both the commercial and policy side of the public affairs industry, spanning three European capitals.

Your working environment

You’ll be based in a state-of-the-art warehouse with other startups and SMEs so you’ll have the opportunity to build a network beyond the EU policy community. You’ll need a mature approach to work as you’ll enjoy the concept of self-management and strive to consistently exceed expectations. We’ll support you every step of the way. You’ll also love change.

Have you got what it takes?

If so, please send us a motivational letter of no more than 300 words explaining why we should invite you to an interview, along with your CV. You’ll need to write directly to us rather than send a generic covering letter.
