Internship

OPP is looking to appoint an EU Policy Assistant to our EU Internship programme to provide support to senior members of our policy team. You will be working across a number of our core policy areas.

As an EU Policy Assistant, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of work as part of a growing business. You’ll have perfect written English as we produce written summaries of EU policy debates in almost real-time. Attention to detail and being organised are critical.

You’ll already have a good knowledge of the EU policy-making process although how you learn rather than what you already know is most important for life at OPP.

What you’ll do

You’ll be trained how to monitor (and eventually analyse) EU policy on a daily basis in order to support senior members of the policy team to keep our clients informed of legislative developments as they happen. Real-time monitoring requires grit and determination as well as a natural curiosity and a love of EU policy and procedures. You’ll be keen to read policy documents on a daily basis.

We’ll also train you to write accurate and concise summaries of EU policy debates.

Skills you’ll demonstrate

  • Full professional proficiency in English is a must. Both written and spoken.
  • You’ll have a good understanding of EU policy-making systems and a passion for policy. You’ll enjoy reading policy documents and tracking the legislative procedure. You’ll strive for consistency at all times.
  • We’re looking for team players who genuinely enjoy helping others and providing excellent customer service. You will be excited by the idea of learning fast on your feet and taking on responsibility quickly. You’ll naturally look for solutions rather than problems. You’ll have confidence in your own ability and you’ll need to remain calm under pressure.
  • You’ll have an analytical mind and enjoy joining the dots between policy areas. We expect you to demonstrate an understanding of the EU policy-making process during the interview stage. You should also have a passion for EU policy that goes beyond your studies. You’ll enjoy being part of a small team and being sociable.
  • The ability to demonstrate independence through your previous paid work experience (either part-time or full-time and not necessarily related to this industry) will be advantageous but not essential. You’ll be confident but you won’t have an ego.

Education

We expect a Masters-level education as standard. A European Studies MA is obviously an advantage as you’ll hit the ground running.

About us

We’re in our eighth year of business and growing rapidly in terms of client base, personnel, and services. We work hard to deliver for our clients.

Your working environment

You’ll operate in a hybrid working culture both working at home and working in an office with everything from free yoga to free beer. You’ll need a mature approach to work as you’ll enjoy the concept of self-management and strive to consistently exceed expectations. We’ll all support you every step of the way.

Have you got what it takes?

If you have read this and ticked every box you should be a high achiever. Top interns at OPP now have full-time jobs with us – some are now clients. If you think you have what it takes you’ll find the application procedure below.
