EU Essential Services Policy Advisor
Oxfam International EU Advocacy Office, Brussels (Belgium)
12 month fixed term contract
Salary: Circa 56,000 euros
Oxfam International (OI) is a confederation of 13 organisations working together with over 3,000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. The OI Secretariat is based in Oxford, UK with advocacy offices in Washington DC, New York, Brussels and Geneva.
Based in Oxfam International’s EU Advocacy Office, you will lead on developing policy recommendations and advocacy strategies designed to influence the European Union’s development policy and practices as part of Oxfam’s international policy team working on aid, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the impact of the economic crisis on developing countries.
You will contribute policy analysis to strengthen Oxfam’s understanding of, and ability to influence, relevant EU development policies and practices, representing Oxfam in lobbying and other meetings as well as coordinating key areas of our work on Essential Services with our other Oxfam offices and allies in Europe. You will also organize and manage events in Brussels to support OI’s advocacy objectives.
You will have a sound knowledge and understanding of development policy and of relevant EU institutions (ways of working, agendas, and how to influence them). Analytical and able to think strategically as well as creatively, you will have excellent communication skills and a track record in policy influencing.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Fluency in written/spoken French is desirable. Other European languages will be an advantage.
You must have the legal right to be employed in Belgium.
Short-term international travel will be required.
