Are you familiar with the main EU Institutions, the geography of Brussels and have a good understanding in EU affairs, policy development, and EU grant-aided actions?
EuropeActive is the pan-European Association that represents the fitness sector and it has developed a strategic plan that includes expanding its operations in grant-aided and contractual work with the EU, with improving its communications, and in the critical area of EU affairs monitoring and strengthening engagement with the European Institutions.
EuropeActive aims to co-operate with the European Union and other international organisations to achieve its objective to get MORE PEOPLE | MORE ACTIVE | MORE OFTEN.

To complement the existing team based in its Brussels office, EuropeActive wishes to appoint a new EU Affairs and Projects Manager. This is a senior position that will support key areas of EuropeActive’s work. The new manager will help lead the current EU Affairs Team, and will coordinate with EuropeActive’s Executive in delivering:

  • Detailed monitoring of the EU institutions, stakeholders and civil society organisations to review policy and developments which may affect the development of the fitness sector. Of special interest are the Directorates: DG EACE, SANTE, EMPL, GROW and CONNECT, together with the relevant committees and groups of the Parliament,
  • Monitoring of the legislative developments in key areas,
  • Support for the writing of policy documents for EuropeActive and to establish researched position and information papers in key areas of our activities,
  • Communications on the implications and findings to our network of members and stakeholders through our websites, newsletters and across social media,
  • Advice and briefing to the EuropeActive Executive,
  • Specific administrative help to implement existing EU-funded grant actions, to advise on new project applications in support of policy areas, and to help in their writing and budget development and control,
  • Representation of EuropeActive at meetings with the EU Institutions, external stakeholders, and compiling reports for internal and external use,
  • Supporting our members and reviewing national positions,
  • Supporting EuropeActive’s programmes of activities, and assisting in the organisation and attendance at events and conferences,
  • Supervision and support to interns and others who are also involved in the delivery of these business objectives.

This is a full-time appointment based in Brussels. The Manager will report to the Director of Programmes, Executive Director and the President of the Association. Attractive remuneration will be offered to the right candidate.
Essential skills for the EU Affairs and Programmes Manager include:

  • Excellent spoken and written English, and preferably a good knowledge of French
  • Good communication, inter-personal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate originality and aptitude to cope with complex and diverse policy areas
  • A good knowledge of the European Institutions and their functions
  • A personal interest in fitness, sport and physical activity
  • Experience of working in European businesses, associations, the European Commission, Parliament, or Agencies, or in civil society organisations which operate at an international level
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience, supported by references
