Hanover Brussels is looking for an experienced EU public affairs professional to join its fast-paced environment & energy policy team.

The Consultant / Senior consultant will be responsible for managing a broad portfolio of clients. We require someone who has experience working in this sector, preferably within a public affairs consultancy, and with a deep knowledge of EU energy and environment policies and the workings of the EU institutions. The successful candidate will take on responsibilities in managing client accounts, and will report to the Head of the Environment & Energy Practice of the Brussels office in ensuring the team continues to build on its success.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Consultant / Senior Consultant provides support to the Head of the Environment & Energy Practice in advising Hanover’s existing clients, in the overall management of key client accounts and of junior team members. The Consultant / Senior consultant also provides support on new business activity including identification of business opportunities, planning and execution of marketing opportunities and activities, and contributing to proposals and pitches.

Day-to-day responsibilities for the Consultant / Senior Consultant include:

Client handling:

  • Conduct client - or topic - specific analyses and draft bespoke briefings
  • Provide timely and relevant support in advising key clients and prospective clients, informed by sector knowledge and broad intelligence-gathering on policy developments
  • Develop close client relationships and support day-to-day contact with the clients related to the execution of advocacy and communication campaigns
  • Oversee the work of junior colleagues and ensure timely deliverables to the client
  • Participate and contribute in client meetings and internal account management meetings supporting the Head of the Environment & Energy Practice in reviewing progress, monitoring capacity and allocating tasks

Management:

  • Work closely with the Head of the Environment & Energy Policy Practice and Managing Director to build a competitive, best-of-class European energy & sustainability policy team and offer; this entails coaching of junior colleagues and helping to identify and recruit the best talent
  • Support the implementation of the marketing strategy for the Environment & Energy Policy Practice, working closely with the Hanover Director of Marketing
  • Regularly contribute timely and newsworthy articles to the Hanover website and other relevant media
  • Expand personal network and, by extension, that of the Hanover Brussels team through event attendance and relationship-building

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for an experienced professional with a minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience and the following skills:

  • Thorough understanding of EU energy & environment policy
  • Knowledge of the interaction between EU, international and national policy and the business impact that this can have on clients
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective time-management and ability to meet deadlines, strong organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to take initiative and autonomy in carrying out tasks
  • Strong creative writing skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Recognised ability to bring creative flair and ideas to new business proposals
  • Ability to operate effectively and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal communication

The ideal candidate will be degree-level educated and have experience working in either a public affairs consultancy, in-house at a relevant company or in a European trade association.

REPORTING LINE:  The position reports to the Head of the Environment & Energy Policy Practice at Hanover Brussels
