Job Description
Applications are invited to join the Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) as a Technical Director. This is a new senior position within the ENN, initially offered on a 2 year part-time fixed term contract. The new person will join the two ENN Directors currently in position.
Profile
Essential qualifications:
- Nutritionist (Masters level)
- Minimum 15 years working in the nutrition sector with a significant proportion in emergency nutrition
- Overseas work experience
- Experience of working with, or on behalf of, international non-governmental organisations, United Nations agencies, and donor agencies
- English speaking and writing
Essential attributes:
- Strong writing skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Self-manger
- Good initiative
Essential areas of experience:
- Co-ordination
- Proposal writing and budget preparation
- Project management, from proposal writing to budget preparation to technical oversight
- Meeting facilitation, preparation of proceedings
Favourable attributes/ experience:
- Good knowledge of food security and public health sector
- Capacity development
- Research/academia
- ENNs current technical areas of work, e.g. moderate malnutrition management
- Additional written languages, e.g. French
Core activities of new position
Activities by the post are broadly categorised as:
1. Strategy development
2. Project management and reporting
3. Technical (emergency nutrition and food security)

1. Strategy development
The post will be involved in all strategy development and management meetings. This involves a monthly meeting with the ENN Oxford team as well as tri-annual trustee meetings. The post will be expected to help shape the future direction of the ENN, in keeping with the ENNs mission statement and charitable objectives (see www.ennonline.net).
2. Project management and reporting
The post will be required to fulfil all reporting requirements for specific projects that they are managing and also contribute to other reports, e.g. annual reports, Charities Commission, Trustee Reports, etc. He/She may be invited to help with other projects managed by co-directors, i.e. attend meetings, comment on draft reports, etc.
3. Technical
The post will be expected to make ad hoc contributions to Field Exchange (the ENN’s flagship publication), e.g. identify potential field articles, research pieces or evaluations during the course of their work. Ideas for pieces will be communicated to Field Exchange technical editor.
He/She may also be required to attend a number of international nutrition meetings. Decisions about which international meetings to attend will be taken by all directors. Participation in international meetings may serve a number of purposes: networking and presentation of ENN activities, facilitating meetings and occasionally being responsible for producing proceedings.
4. Fundraising
The post will be jointly responsible with other directors for fundraising and developing new activities that are coherent with ENNs mission and other ENN activities. He/she will be expected to take equal responsibility for fundraising and new activities for ENN along with other directors.
Additional
There is potential for additional work, such as technically managing some of ENNs current and ‘pipeline’ projects, and leading on new initiatives. This will depend on the qualifications and experience of applicants. Additional work on projects will attract additional work-time over the 3 days/month, is project specific and negotiable.
Location
The ENN administrative office is based in Oxford, UK. This is a UK based position; with access to Oxford and London (approx one monthly attendance at Oxford meetings required). Additional meetings may be needed related to specific projects.
The post is a home-based position, with IT and associated expenses support included as part of the package.
Terms & Benefits
This is an employed salaried position, within the range £45,000-£65,000 pro rata.
The position is offered on a part-time basis, 3 days/month (36 days per year).
Additional days may be required for extra work, e.g. in the event of attendance at a number of international meetings.
Time allocation for any additional work on projects is project-specific and subject to negotiation.
Benefits package includes:

- Fully paid basic holiday of 33 days including 8 bank and public holidays, pro-rata. An additional day of fully paid holiday per year after 2 years of service, to max 35 days total holiday allowance.
- Stakeholder pension scheme available. ENN 5% contribution.
- Home IT support to specified limit where >70% of work is from home.
About the ENN
The ENN is a UK registered charity (no. 1115156) and company limited by guarantee (no. 4889844). As a charity, it is governed by a Board of Trustees/Directors (six).
The ENN team currently comprises two Directors (Jeremy Shoham, Marie McGrath), Finance Manager (Matt Todd), Office Manager (Rupert Gill), Project Administrator (Diane Crocombe), Mailing administrator (Katherine Kaye), and Technical Support Officer (Chloe Angood). IT/web speciality is provided by Phil Wilks and desktop design by Orna O’Reilly (both freelance).. A large network of collaborations and consultants support project implementation.
