The Position
Exciting opportunity for committed and energetic professional wanting to make a lasting difference to join small dynamic education team at the headquarters of the Aga Khan Foundation in Geneva to support education work in countries in South and Central Asia, West and Eastern Africa, the Middle East and parts of Europe.
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is part of the Aga Khan Development Network. AKDN brings together a number of institutions and development agencies whose mandates range from the social sector and culture to architecture and private sector enterprise. AKF works primarily in some of the poorest parts of South and Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It seeks sustainable solutions to the long-term problems associated with poverty and aims to improve the quality of life.
Working closely with and reporting to the Education Co-Directors the successful candidate will assist conceptualize and design new education initiatives and will provide professional support to colleagues in country units in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, research and policy advocacy. The post involves extensive travel and work at multiple levels (community through to policy). A key part of the Geneva team's role is to carry out and facilitate analysis of key trends and issues as well as draw out lessons learned from AKDN and other education initiatives. This is used to contribute to policy dialogue at international levels.
The Requirements
- Commitment to making a difference and a track record which demonstrates this.
- University degree (preferably advanced) in related field.
- At least seven years progressively responsible professional work experience - part of that time in developing countries in monitoring, evaluation, or research.
- Strategic thinker able to identify key issues and opportunities.
- Outstanding communication skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-sectoral environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization. Proven ability to work effectively with others in the conceptualization, development, planning and management of programmes.
- Particular expertise in at least one of the following areas; Early Childhood Development, Primary education, Youth or Adult education, research;
- Ability to assess and develop capacity ' including for training, strategy development, delivery approaches and curricula.
- Leadership, teamwork and supervisory abilities.
- Strong analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
- Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications.
- Knowledge of recent developments in education and related fields.
- Fluency in English required. Knowledge of one or more of French, Portuguese, a South Asian language, Russian or Arabic, an asset.
