Role:

The Director Intellectual Property Policy ensures that EFPIA's IP policy activities are focused on progressing and delivering the relevant EFPIA priorities.    He/she is responsible for developing and implementing EFPIA’s IP strategy as set by the Board. 

He/she acts as a leader in this field and coordinates closely with other EFPIA team members such as the Trade, Scientific, Regulatory, Government Affairs and Communications Team and the EFPIA membership, by identifying at an early stage, key areas for action and designing/recommending industry response and engagement.

The role requires liaising regularly with industry experts and external stakeholders.

The Director Intellectual Property Policy reports to the Director General.

Responsibilities include:

  • Set objectives, operational plans and measure performance to ensure the implementation of the EFPIA strategy with respect to IP and other exclusivity-based incentives and rewards for pharmaceutical innovation;
  • Coordinate and drive the work of relevant EFPIA working groups (notably IP Expert Group, Paediatrics PWG);
  • Support and provide input to the Trade and Competition WGs on IP aspects;
  • Provide insights, analyses and policy recommendations regarding relevant EU developments and opportunities to inform EFPIA working groups' work;
  • Author advocacy materials and internal documents related to a broad range of intellectual property and innovation policy issues;
  • Advocate EFPIA policy positions with key institutional stakeholders;
  • Represent EFPIA at relevant external events and meetings, presenting on relevant IP policy issues.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in IP law, with a good knowledge of EU, Pharmaceutical and Competition Law;
  • 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare/life sciences industry; 
  • Fluency in English (native speaker or equivalent) with proven experience in drafting various policy documents and in public speaking;
  • Good knowledge of MS Office software package.

The following would be assets:

  • Good knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry / healthcare sector;
  • Familiarity with the functioning of European institutions and EU decision-making process;
  • Established networks in IP policy and in Brussels;
  • Experience in working in a law firm, trade association or pharmaceutical company;
  • Experience in managing and leading working groups and projects.

Skills:

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, communication and organisational skills;
  • Highly flexible, with an ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment and to adapt to constantly evolving external and internal environments;
  • Rigorous and detail-oriented;
  • Self-starter capable of developing innovative and original insights and analysis;
  • Good people management and collaboration skills with the ability to interface at all levels of management and personnel;
  • Outgoing personality and good interpersonal skills, including the ability to network and build relationships with outside organisations.

EFPIA offers:

  • A permanent contract with an ideal start date no later than 15 September 2017;
