The Organisation

EIT Food was recently created by a consortium of 50 leading businesses, research centres and universities across 13 EU countries, with the aim to put Europe at the centre of transformation in food innovation and production with a central role for the consumer. For that purpose, it will amongst others, support the creation of start-ups, develop new products and services and train students. It is funded by EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), an independent EU body and the consortium members, with a budget of €1.5 billion, spread over 7 years.

EIT Food will have its head office near Brussels and will also have co-location centres (CLCs) in London, Madrid, Munich and Warsaw. I will have a permanent staff of around 35 people.

Key responsibilities

The COO will:

  • Act as the "Chief of Staff" of the CEO
  • Personally manage the EIT Food back office (finance, IT, HR, legal, etc.) and lead daily operations. This includes all the "internal communication", i.e. all the communication with the CLCs and EIT.
  • Prepare, deliver and monitor the implementation of the annual Business Plan
  • Maintain an continuously improve the operational framework of EIT Food including all financial systems and processes with the help of a financial manager.
  • Prepare and monitor a multi-annual financial planning, including cash flow planning, investment, asset management, and banking relationships

The Profile

Candidates should fulfil following criteria:

  • Have at least 10 years' leadership experience in different support functions in complex organizations or in project management at senior level
  • Be process-oriented ad hands-on, combining analytical thinking, versatility and the ability to juggle with multiple balls in the air
  • Show outstanding communication skills, both verbally and in writing, and strong influencing and negotiations skills
  • Be multicultural and be fluent in English
  • Have at least a university degree
