FLINT Europe - Consultant, Financial Services, Brussels

Brussels · Brussels, .

Consultant, Financial Services

In Brussels, we are looking for a consultant with 3+ years professional experience in EU financial services to join our team in Brussels.

You may currently be working in an EU institution, for a regulatory authority, for a public affairs or management consultancy, a multinational or a think-tank. You understand the EU’s legislative process and the value of personal networks. The role entails advising clients on the implications of EU political and policy developments for their business, with a particular focus on the financial services sector.

Whilst the role would have a heavy financial services focus, the consultant would also be expected to work across other sectors, including digital, energy and sustainability.

Flint is a business advisory. We help our clients succeed in an increasingly complex world, managing risk and creating opportunity. We provide advice at the point where government and business meet, offering an authoritative perspective on both. We are experts in policy, political analysis, regulation and competition. Members of our multi-national team have experience of working at the most senior levels in European governments, the EU Commission, regulatory agencies, competition bodies and the private sector. We support companies who face the challenges of regulatory and policy change at national, European and international levels.

To apply

Please submit your CV along with a brief covering letter (not more than 800 words). Your cover letter should include answers to the following questions:

  • How is your experience to date relevant for this role in EU financial services?
  • What do you think are the current issues that our clients are most interested in/affected by? What would you bring to the client team advising them?
  • How would you understand a client's commercial priorities?  What do you think is the most effective way of achieving these aims (e.g. when working with EU institutions)?

Deadline for applications: 18th March 2021.

Primary Responsibilities:

Working alongside a high-performing team, you would be expected to:

  • Deliver outstanding work for our clients: support in advising clients at a senior level on the impacts of political and regulatory change, and how they can manage these to secure the best outcomes for their business;
  • Take responsibilities and ownership: conduct client and/or topic-specific analysis and draft bespoke briefings; participate and contribute in client meetings and internal account management meetings;
  • Build client relationships: serve as day-to-day contact of the clients related to the execution of policy analysis, advocacy and communication campaigns;
  • Contribute to teamwork: work closely with client team leads to continue to build a competitive, best-in-class EU affairs team and offering;

Skills and Experience:

  • Track record demonstrating interest in financial services, FinTech, economic and political issues.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, research and problem-solving skills – ability to draw out the implications of complex evidence and analysis to give clear strategy and policy advice.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, with proven ability to draft clear documents for internal and external audiences with varying degrees of expert knowledge.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues to non-specialists.
  • Good project management and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise, plan and schedule complex tasks proactively – comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – a flexible approach and the ability to work well across teams, both with internal colleagues and external clients.
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required, knowledge of other European languages is an advantage.
