Job Description
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides assistance in more than 80 countries to populations in distress, victims of natural or manmade disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.
Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland hosts one of the five operational centers of the MSF movement resulting from a partnership between several MSF sections.
Mission
The Communications and Fundraising Director oversees, coordinates and organizes the activities and the human resources of the department, which is composed of the following services: Fundraising, Operational Communications, Communications in Switzerland and the Documentation Center. He or she is also responsible of the management of the Zurich office.
Main responsibilities / activities
- Elaborate, recommend, promote and implement the communications and fundraising policies
- Define the global action plan and translate it into operational objectives for the department
- Participate to the elaboration and implementation of MSF’s international communication strategies
- Is responsible for the follow up of the department’s overall budget
- Represent MSF externally as a spokesperson (information on operations, positioning, etc.)
- Recruit team members, ensure the follow up, individual evaluations and the cohesion of the team
- Ensure that the communications and fundraising activities are led in a timely manner in order to correspond to the operational requests of the MSF field
- Keep a regular contact with the counterparts from other sections (meetings, sharing of information)
- Guarantee the international coherence of MSF’s communication especially when concerning emergencies or public positioning.
Profile
- University degree (ideally in communication or marketing)
- Strong organizational and managerial capacities. Experience in leading, managing teams and decision taking is essential
- Fluent in English, French and German
- Proven interest for humanitarian aid is essential. Humanitarian experience, preferably with MSF, is a plus
- Knowledge of Swiss communication and fundraising actors and their functioning is an asset.
Conditions
Full time position with a long-term contract and a 3-year minimum commitment
Based in Geneva, this position requires significant travel
Gross salary: CHF 121'356 per year
