Job Description
Main tasks:
1. Communications strategy: To assist EAPN with the development of its communications strategy
and communication plans
2. Publications
a) Overall responsibility for the EAPN Magazine / Newsletter
- Planning of issues (normally 3 issues/year)
- Drafting and editing of articles
- Follow up contributors
- Organising and checking of translations
- Supervision of lay-out
- Contacts with printer (support from Admin team)
b) Overall responsibility for EAPN Flash
- Find relevant information from various sources (EU, NGOs, etc.)
- Drafting and lay out of the of the bimonthly newssheets (EAPN Flash)
- Organising and checking of translations
- Proof-reading
c) EAPN Books/Booklets
- Supervision of lay out and translations
- Contacts with printer (support from admin team)
- The content of the books/booklets are developed and prepared by the relevant staff member
d) EAPN Position Papers and Reports
- Lay out and presentation of the key position papers and reports (templates)
- Supervision of translations
- The content of the Position Papers and Reports are prepared by the relevant staff member
3. Overall responsibility for the EAPN website: Maintenance, and development of EAPN Web site
(incl. Extranet) and promotion of its use. Development of content shared with other staff members.
4. Press and public relations
a) Develop relations with the press: Draft and issue press releases. Keep register of journalists
up to date. Organise press conferences / briefings
b) Propose, develop and update promotion tools such as leaflets, handbooks, etc.
c) Promotion of EAPN’s activities (drawing attention to reports, seminars etc.)
d) Answer external inquiries about EAPN, present EAPN activities to visiting groups
5. Other tasks:
a) Take part in the drafting of activity reports, to the EAPN General Assembly and the European
Commission
b) Keep in touch with National Networks in view of publications or press conferences taking
place on the occasion of seminars, conferences, General Assemblies.
c) Any other task assigned by the Director.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
A) Skills/abilities
Essential:
- Fluent in English and French with an excellent ability to communicate messages effectively in writing and orally.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize
- Computer literacy, including knowledge of specific programmes related to web site development and maintenance and programmes for lay out and presentation of documents
- Ability to work as part of a team while being self supporting
Desirable:
- Knowledge of other languages
B) Experience
Essential:
- Experience in communications and media relations of at least 3 years
- Experience of working on web sites and on presentation of documents
- Experience of the world of NGOs
Desirable:
- Experience of working in a European environment
- Experience of developing communications strategies
C) Knowledge
Essential:
- Knowledge of relevant computer programmes related to Communications
- Knowledge of issues related to economic and social rights, preferably to poverty and social exclusion
- Knowledge of NGOs and NGO Networking
Desirable:
- Knowledge of EU institutions and functioning
- Knowledge of policy-making processes
D) Special condition: Available to travel when appropriate
JOB CONTEXT: The person will be part of a team of 13 (Director, Policy Coordinator, Policy and Development Officers, Policy Officer, Projects Officer, Finance Officer, Office Manager and Executive Secretary). The Information officer will take part in EAPN‘s office staff development plan.
Remuneration Package
The person will be employed under the Belgian law. The gross salary scale applicable to this position ranges from 2526 to 3579 Euro monthly, depending on relevant experience. Further benefits include a thirteenth month, double holiday pay, a forfaitary amount of 123,95 € on top of the monthly salary for expenses related to the job, reimbursement of public transport to come to work, meal vouchers, an extra-legal pension fund, a hospital insurance.
