The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is the world’s largest organisation of healthcare professionals dedicated to fighting heart disease. It helps more than 95,000 cardiologists from 150 countries expand the boundaries of cardiovascular medicine so people can lead longer, healthier lives.

The ESC publishes a dozen scientific journals, an array of textbooks and the latest clinical practice guidelines. It provides continuing medical education through webinars and classroom courses and hosts the summit of cardiovascular science each August - ESC Congress - which attracts 31,000 heart specialists and delivers over 4,500 of the latest abstracts.

The ESC is currently looking for a talented Communication Officer for a permanent contract, CDI, to work at its headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France. 

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as the first contact for communication activities of the assigned project/activity (example an Association, a congress…)
  • Collect and analyse the project/activity owners needs and ensure their evolution.
  • Identify all the communication campaigns needed for the project/activities
  • Build communication tactics with the marketing (audiences) and communication team (channel possibilities): message, actions & deliverables per audiences
  • Create communication action plans for each campaign, coordinate and monitor implementation with production teams (marketing, brand, social media, web, press)
  • Act as an intermediary among the different actors involved in the communication campaigns
  • Provide regular reports n the communication activities to comm. & project owners
  • Organise internal meetings to ensure coordination and understanding of the needs in relation to the ESC/Associations’ strategy. Prepare and send minutes
  • Coordinate the promotion and stand activities for subspecialty congresses: promotion opportunities, content and implementation of promotional material.
  • Write content for briefs and coordinate the production of newsletters, bulletins and other communication support
  • Website: review submitted content created by the authors, approve (or reject) for final publication by the web team. Create all advertisement and cross promotion for his/her communication campaign
  • Support the Communication team for transversal or corporate projects and their implementation


Professional experience & skills

  • English: mother tongue level / exceptional high standards
  • Outstanding copywriting, editing and proofreading skills
  • Adept at creating short, sharp copy for digital and print promotion
  • Adept at briefing and managing external suppliers (e.g. photographers, journalists, videographers)
  • Basic budget management (costing out tactics, purchase order management, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in communication
  • Degree in communications (or equivalent experience)
  • Familiar with CMS
  • Experience in online digital marketing (mailing, social media, Google Adwords, etc.)
