Job Description

The Client Director serves as an Association Executive Director, who is responsible for providing strategic leadership, counsel and direction to one or more of MCI’s client associations. Success is measured in the ability to develop, expand and manage business partnerships so that clients attain business objectives/achieve maximum service potential – within the context of supporting MCI’s vision and business objectives, revenue, profit, and retention goals.

The CD has the primary role of driving client relationship (s) and by acting as an effective conduit between the operational account team and the client, Oversight and management of commitments to clients as defined in the mandate and contract.

Main responsibilities:

  • Advise clients’ leadership community on policy matters.
  • Provide advisory services on the clients’ business.
  • Provide leadership to client teams to develop and execute shared strategic/business plans that support the clients’ mission and goals.
  • Negotiate contract mandates, SLAs (Service Level Agreements), and KPIs on an annual basis.
  • Influence the establishment of Associations’ financial budgets.
  • Develop the yearly client budget plan; monthly rolling forecasts for revenue and client gross profit, in order to monitor variance and act upon action plans where necessary.
  • Gather, analyse, and deliver monthly invoicing data, accurately and timely.
  • Develop diverse income streams e.g. market products and services, obtain and administer grants, recruit and engage sponsors and partners.
  • Initiate and anticipate potential to enhance and grow the existing client business by identifying business development opportunities
  • Direct performance management of the operational account teams.
  • Allocate staff and resources to meet objectives and investigate/implement ways to improve service/efficiency operations.
  • Manage, appraise and evaluate individual account team member performance.
  • Be an integral part of the MCI Bid Team (new clients) where required. Assist in the preparation and presentation for new business proposals.
  • Keep abreast of Association Industry developments, and the MCI Competency model, and related knowledge bases.

Job requirements:
The CD profile should preferably have a primary University degree/ higher education qualification in one of the following areas: Business Studies, Economics, Management, International Relations or Law. A minimum of 5- 6 years of direct client facing experience in an account management or project management role within a services related industry (e.g., events management, outsourcing, association management, service provider). Experience in an international environment is desirable.

  • Experience with operating budgets/ time reporting management/ and financial control
  • Broad commercial expertise with good knowledge of Client business drivers
  • Excellent negotiating ability
  • Ability to impact and influence
  • Able to work within time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Effective project management skills (suitable to MCI)
  • Understanding of MCI financial drivers
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional and ethical conduct
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • A clear understanding to operate within MCI policies and procedures, and in line with MCI Assessment and MBO programs.
