Call for Expression of Interest for 1 Associate Professor and 2 Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Neuroscience, University of Padua, within the project “Department of Excellence” of the Italian Ministry of Education University and Research (MIUR), and 1 MR physicist position with Padova University Hospital.

The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Padova, Italy, invites expressions of interest for:

  1. 1 position of Associate Professor (tenured) in the field of Neuroimaging Methods (MRI, PET), with expertise in functional and structural methods, data analysis (connectomics), and statistical inference. The background can be in engineering, physics, or neuroradiology.
  2. 1 position of Assistant Professor (tenure track for 3 years, with promotion to Associate based on performance) in the field of Neurophysiology, specifically MEG/EEG/intracranial EEG, and expertise in time and frequency domain analysis and statistical inference. The background can be in physics, engineering, or physiology.
  3. 1 position of Assistant Professor (tenure track for 3 years, with promotion to Associate on performance) with expertise in statistics, informatics, big-data, machine learning. The background can be in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or physics.
  4. 1 position of MR Physicist with the University Hospital in Padua for coordinating different scanners (3T Siemens Hybrid PET/MR; 3T Phillip Achieva; and Siemens Vision 1.5T) at the hospital and development of MRI research. The candidate shall be able to implement state-of-the-art MR sequences (e.g. simultaneous Multi-Slice (SMS) imaging, more generally parallel imaging e compressed sensing), process MR data, work in a dynamic clinical environment with large multi-disciplinary research teams.

The Department of Neuroscience includes various Clinical Units including Neurology, Neurosurgery, ENT, Opthalmology, Maxillo-Facial and Plastic Surgery, Odontoiatry, Anatomy, and Rehabilitation. The Department of Neuroscience is one of the founding departments of the newly established Padova Neuroscience Center (PNC, www.pnc.unipd.it) dedicated to the study of brain networks at the level of Systems, Circuits, Computations, Cognitive and Affective, and Clinical Neuroscience. These positions will have a double affiliation with the Department and the Center. PNC has also established a new PhD school in Neuroscience with 11 new positions being awarded in 2018. The Department ranked 1st in the ‘Department of Excellence’ competition by MIUR. University of Padova is ranked 103 worldwide in Life and Health Sciences, and 1st in Italy according to the CWST Leiden ranking.

Successful candidates will carry out their research activities in the context of a 5-year project named ‘Neuroinformatics of Precision: NEURODiP’ focused on developing deep phenotyping of various neurological and psychiatric conditions, and algorithms for prediction of outcome, longitudinal course, and response to therapy. An important component is the development of smart technology and related clinical applications for monitoring the dynamic evolution of symptoms and behavior.

Salary is set by Italian law. Teaching load defined by national regulation is 120 hours for Associate Professors and 80 hours for Assistant Professors. The University positions will come with 1 post-doc salary covered for 2 years, and a small research budget.

Applicants shall have an outstanding record of publications, a cutting edge research agenda, the ability to attract research funding, and teaching experience. Applications from international scholars are encouraged.
