Region Dalarna is a co-operative body which is responsible for promoting and coordinating regional development in the county of Dalarna. Our goal is to seize all of Dalarna’s opportunities in order to further the regional development in various sectors which are of importance for sustainable growth and employment.

 

This includes development planning, programmes for economic growth, situational analysis, project funds for regional development as well as the overall responsibility for any strategic work in progress. Region Dalarna is also involved in European and international issues, in tourism development and in coordinating the ownership rule of the county’s public transport.

 

Region Dalarna is a municipal association comprising Dalarna’s 15 municipalities and the County Council. It was established as the Regional Development Council in 2003, taking over responsibility for a number of government functions which had previously been handled by the County Administrative Board.

 

An executive board consisting of 25 members (each with a respective alternate) is Region Dalarna’s highest decision-making body. 10 of its members are selected by the County Council while each of Dalarna’s 15 municipalities is represented by one member on the executive board. Region Dalarna’s work is funded through membership fees from the municipalities and the County Council as well as other resources transferred from the government. The various projects are financed by e.g. public project funds, European structural funds and regional development money transferred from the County Council.
